As the Paris Olympics come to an end after two weeks of breath taking and inspiring moments, I thought u would share a story of my own.
Having being born with Cerbal Palsy in 1985 life has always been a struggle at times but it hasn’t been more than a struggle when after nearly 2 years of inactivity due to the Covid lockdowns and General laziness, I could hardly move due to a very bad hip and I had to be helped with more than the usual tasks that I need assistance with.
I decided to take action and have been visiting a number of physios and sports therapists both on the National Health Service and also in the private sector I havs managed to get back better than I was before.
That being said I still need help with the everyday tasks but my physical and mental health is considerably better.
The problem was in the beginning down my right side which was not helped by developing a tennis and golfers elbow in my right arm. This was probably due to too much time on the mobile phone texting etc
Two cortisone injections later (the second one taking time to convince that both tendons had the same injury).
This allowed me to do some volunteering later in the year at the World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool. My first work since covid.
The event was spectacular and I met some wonderful people and was able to watch Jessica Gladlova win a magnificent gold, however walking between the M and S arena to the Fanzone which was positioned in the convention centre took its toll on mt legs.
So I decided to take action and the first time u visited the NHS physio they did a full head to toe assessment that included taking measurements of my hips, knees z ankles, the area that was most interest.
The results at this stage were not good my hips were at 70 degrees out were they should be at 0 and my knees and ankles both into three figures.
However after a large amount of hard work and help encouragement I am nearly there my hips are now at an angle of 5 to 10 degrees with knees at 20 and the ankles at 15 degrees.
My legs are no longer rubbing together when I walk which is an added extra.
I still have my struggles this year at the beginning of the summer I was unable to volunteer as I had hoped at the for the Sheffield DocFest due to tiredness in my legs, but there is always next year.
So I am now targeting my knees and ankles to level up with my hips and that will allow me to rejoin the gym so that i can strengthen the legs. I have not wanted to do it previously due to feeling it might have an adverse affect.
I shall also invest in a new frame just to steady my entire body.
I would like to thank everyone near and far who have supported me though this journey so far I really appreciate it.
Thank you for your continued support I love you all.
